Going back to when I was a young teen, first studying electronics, I did not understand why we needed imaginary numbers in calculating values for electronic circuitry. I understood the mechanical operations necessary for solutions, but I didn’t truly understand why? What was the true nature of imaginary numbers and what did it really mean?

      It later became apparent to me that their significance becomes clearer when we consider them as tools to describe aspects of reality that cannot be directly observed or contextualized, as you aptly put it, in ordinary terms.

      In the context of Quantum Realism and the ideas presented in my blog post, imaginary numbers serve a greater purpose, they allow us to work with phenomena that involve a dual aspect of reality: the observed and the underlying unseen processes. For example:

      1. Wave-Particle Duality in Quantum Mechanics: Imaginary numbers are a key component of the mathematics describing quantum states, such as in Schrödinger’s equation. The wave function contains both real and imaginary parts. While the real part relates to the observable probabilities, the imaginary part encodes “hidden” potential of the system that are not immediately observable but still crucial to the behavior of the system.
