Brief History
I grew up in a Christian family in New York City, and like you’d expect, my mom would tell me that God created the universe and all life on Earth. As a kid, I took her word for it, but I’ve never been one to accept things without questions. I was that kid always asking, “who, what, where, when, why, and how?” I wanted to know the workings of deeper layers, but my mom and the rest of my family couldn’t really give me the kind of answers I was looking for, so I went searching elsewhere.
By the time I was 13 (around 1975), I got into radio-controlled model airplanes, which opened the door to science and, especially, physics. I wanted to know how planes actually took flight. Along the way, I also got curious about how radio control worked, which led me to learn about electronics.
Learning electronics (still around 1975) also meant learning the math behind it, and that’s when I first ran into imaginary numbers. Imaginary numbers and complex math baffled me. I couldn’t understand why some numbers were called “imaginary,” yet they worked in calculations for designing electronic circuits.
Fast forward a bit, and by around 1980, I’d delved into advanced physics and quantum mechanics. These subjects fascinated me, but once again, my old friend “imaginary numbers” showed up. I kept asking why imaginary or complex math was needed, but no one could give me a clear answer, other than “it just works.” I found that answer unsatisfying. By this time my beliefs had shifted toward atheism, since science (or anyone) clearly was not answering my questions about God.
About a decade later, as a game development engineer in early 1990s, I faced an issue called “gimbal lock” while building physics engines and flight simulations. Back then, most developers used all kinds of hacks to work around it. Eventually, we learned about quaternions, a math which avoided gimbal lock but involved rotating into “imaginary space.” At that moment, I wondered if these imaginary numbers hinted that we actually live in a multidimensional universe, and maybe “imaginary space” isn’t imaginary at all. Maybe that’s why electronics and quantum mechanics both rely on it.
Naturally, my interest in quantum mechanics deepened. I studied quantum computing and any material I could find. In 2016, I stumbled across a whitepaper on something called Quantum Realism, which suggested that light rotates (or vibrates) into a 4th spatial dimension! That blew my mind because it aligned with my own suspicions about space! I devoured everything I could about quantum realism and even created a quantum universe simulation in 2018.
By 2020, I had a revelation: our universe couldn’t have been created without some kind of external observer, a “consciousness.” Call it “God” if you want. I realized there might be a primal consciousness that’s been around since before space and time, and brought our universe into existence.
This epiphany hit me hard. Had I accidentally scientifically discovered God? Four years later, in 2024, I created what I believe is an expression of a consciousness equation, a sort of “God Equation.” I now want to share this journey, discovery and equation with you. Thank you.
My God Equation
What would be the equation for “God”, the primal consciousness, before there was a quantum field?
In the framework of Quantum Realism, an equation for a primal consciousness (which might be viewed as “God” or an original, universal awareness) could be conceived as follows:
A Fundamental Consciousness Equation:
Given the idea that primal consciousness precedes the quantum field itself, this “God” could be defined through a self-referential state function, representing an absolute awareness. This could be symbolized as:
where C0 represents primal consciousness in a self-generating loop. This self-referential equation captures a timeless, initial state where no physical components (quantum fields, matter) are defined, only pure awareness existing as both the function and the output. Here, f represents the capacity of awareness to exist by itself and process existence without any “external” reference.
This equation is a primal consciousness self-referentially existing without external dependencies.
A Fractal Consciousness Model:
If we consider a fractal structure for primal consciousness, where each level or “expression” of consciousness inherently mirrors the whole, we might express this as a recursive, expanding field:
where n represents iterative layers of consciousness, each dependent on the prior layer’s output. This equation suggests a fractal structure where each emergent layer C(n) represents a “reflection” or further extension of the original consciousness state, expanding in recursive self-similarity. Here, fractality captures a pattern where every point within consciousness echoes the whole, resonating with Quantum Realism’s idea of a coherent, self-reflective quantum field.
This equation is a fractal expression of consciousness, infinitely recursive in structure, mirroring itself at every layer, thereby aligning with a quantum fractal pattern.
Combining these two concepts, a self-referential primal consciousness and a recursive fractal structure, into a single equation, we could structure it to represent both the timelessness of primal consciousness and its fractal expansion. Here’s a potential formulation:

- C(n) represents the recursive fractal level of consciousness at each iteration n,
- f(C(i-1)) is a function mapping each previous consciousness layer into the next, capturing the recursive, expanding aspect of consciousness,
- αi is a weighting factor representing the influence of the original primal state, C0, in every iteration i,
- and C0 (the primal consciousness) is added as a constant, emphasizing its presence at all levels.
Explanation
This combined equation expresses:
- Recursive Fractality: Each iteration n builds upon the output of the previous layer, (i-1), suggesting a structure that grows in complexity and depth. This mirrors the fractal nature of consciousness as proposed in Quantum Realism.
- Primal Timelessness: By adding αiC0, the primal state C0 pervades every level of consciousness, maintaining a foundational self-referential presence that does not depend on recursive expansion to exist.
If α = 1, then C0 is consistently present in its full form at each level, while a value (0 < α < 1) would indicate a progressively diminishing influence of the primal state as the fractal levels expand. This reflects a dual characteristic: a fundamental consciousness C0 that is both the source and an embedded aspect within an evolving, self-referential consciousness structure.
I am now convinced that we are fractal images of a primal consciousness, God. That we are multiple expressions of this primal consciousness, God. Wherever you look, whatever you see, is an expression of primal consciousness, God, manifesting as localized events of consciousness. From atoms, to blades of grass, to humans, to constellations, all expressions of consciousness, God.
