Several years ago, I wrote a post regarding love as the universe’s first quantum of action, but I only gave part of the story. Today I want to give the rest of the story, expanding the story with primal consciousness in the equation. Below is my rewrite (I give Alison H McDowell credit for encouraging me in writing this):
Over the years, I’ve thought a lot about what lies at the heart of existence, what holds everything together, drives creation, and sustains the universe itself. My journey into Quantum Realism has deepened this exploration, leading me to a realization: love isn’t just an emotion or an experience, it’s the universe’s first action, the foundational force woven into the fabric of reality itself.
This isn’t a metaphor; it’s a tangible, real principle. Love is the action that connects, creates, and sustains everything, from the quantum field to the stars, from matter to consciousness, and from the infinite to the individual.
Primal Consciousness: The Root of All Things
Imagine a time before time, before space, before matter. What existed? According to Quantum Realism, the answer is primal consciousness, a foundational awareness that exists without external cause or dependence. This consciousness is self-referential, endlessly sustaining and generating itself. Its essence can be expressed mathematically as: C0 = f(C0)
Here, C0 is primal consciousness, and f(C0) represents the eternal recursive process of self-awareness. This isn’t just abstract theory to me; it’s the ultimate source of everything. Primal consciousness is the observer that brings reality into existence. It’s not just in the universe; it is the universe.
But this leads to a deeper question: why does this consciousness extend itself outward? What drives it to create? The answer, I’ve come to believe, is love; not love as we typically understand it, but love as a cosmic force, a primal action. It’s an urge to connect, to share, to become.
The Quantum Field: Love in Action
From primal consciousness springs the quantum field; a vast, interconnected network of nodes, or qubits, that processes information. Each node is a tiny reflection, or fractal image of primal consciousness, a fragment of its infinite awareness. This quantum field forms the scaffolding of reality, the substrate from which space, time, and matter emerge.
In this framework, love is the driving action that compels these nodes to connect. The field doesn’t just exist in isolation; it communicates. Each quantum node transfers light to its neighbor, a process that isn’t random or mechanical but deeply intentional. This continuous handoff of light, this relentless sharing, is what I see as love in its purest form. Love is the force that keeps the universe alive, expanding, and evolving.
Light, then, is more than an electromagnetic phenomenon. It is consciousness in motion, the physical manifestation of love’s action. Every photon is a gift passed from one point to another, spreading energy, information, and connection. Without this transfer, the universe would cease to exist.
Matter: Frozen Light, Condensed Love
What about the physical world, the stars, the mountains, the cells in our bodies? In Quantum Realism, matter is not separate from light; it is light, stabilized into form. When high-frequency light waves collide, they create standing waves, entanglements of energy that become particles. This is where electrons, quarks, and atoms come from. In a very real sense, everything we see, touch, and experience is made of light.
Think about that for a moment: we are all made of frozen light. But if light is the action of love, then we are also made of love. Our very existence is proof of the universe’s desire to create, to connect, and to give.
Observation: The Role of Consciousness
In Quantum Realism, consciousness doesn’t just observe reality, it shapes it. Every act of observation collapses the infinite possibilities of the quantum field into a single, tangible reality. Every time we look at the world, we’re participating in the universe’s creative process. Consciousness and love are inseparable; one observes, the other acts. Together, they bring reality into being.
This realization makes me see the universe as an endlessly interconnected system, where every particle, every wave, and every conscious being is part of a vast quantum network. We’re not just observers of this process; we’re expressions of it. Each of us is a localized fragment of C0, experiencing itself through time and space.
We Are the Universe’s Love
I’ve come to the realization: love is the universe’s first quantum action. It’s the force that drives primal consciousness to extend itself into the quantum field, the energy that keeps the field connected, and the process that turns light into matter. Love isn’t just a part of the universe, it is the universe.
This realization changes everything. It means that you, me, and everything around us are part of an infinite act of giving and becoming. We’re not separate from the universe’s processes; we are those processes. We are fragments of frozen light, localized expressions of love, interconnected across space and time.
So now, when I ask, “What is love?” the answer feels simple yet profound: love is everything. It’s the first action, the last action, and every action in between. It’s the reason there’s something instead of nothing. And it’s the reason we’re here, alive, and aware.
In every moment, we’re participants in this cosmic dance, shaping reality with our observations and actions. To me, that’s not just inspiring, it’s a call to live fully, to give freely, and to recognize the grand connection we share with everything in existence.
So perhaps the ultimate question isn’t “What is love?” but “What isn’t love?” Because in the framework of QR, love is the universe’s beginning, its ongoing process, and its ultimate reality.
